Faratuben is a combining of first rate rate musicians from both Mali and Denmark. The name Faratuben is a mix of the words Farafi (black) and Toubabu (white).
Instead of playing traditional kora music, made popular by artists such asToumani Diabaté andSalif Keita, they are in fact representing the bobo-culture. Bobo-music is made for dancing and drinking, and is traditionally played on only balafon and ‘talking’ drums.
At the start of 2000, this musical style electrified small clubs in Bamako, where it was played in a rough and hard driven way. Faratuben has since helped develop and reinvent this clubsound by creating their own unique style. The music is clearly from this millennium, with the addition of synthesizers and clubbeats, but is still firmly rooted in the traditions of the bobo-villages.
It’s a musical experience, full of life and energy. More than just music.
